Anything But Books: The Tag

It’s tag time again! The lovely Cristina tagged me to do this, and I’m so excited, so lets go!

Name a cartoon that you love.

Miraculous Ladybug FTW! Adrien Agreste is literal perfection, and I want my own kwami to guide me through life.

What is your favourite song right now?

“She was Nancy Mulligan

And I was William Sheeran

She took my name and then we were one

Down by the Wexford border”

What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?

This isn’t going to come as a surprise to anyone who follows me on Instagram, but I’m more than happy to spend hours and hours on either my knitting or my crocheting. Especially if it’s my big blue fluffy blanket that I’ll still be knitting in the afterlife.

What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

Well, it’s confession time – I play Pokemon Go, and I love it. Whenever it first came out, everyone was playing it, but I didn’t have anything to play it on, but now I have my iPhone, and I can play it now, even though basically nobody else seems to be playing any more.

And yes, that is me catching a Swinub while editing this blog post.

What is your favourite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?

I just love learning random little facts that are no use to anyone’s actual life, but they’re fun to bring up nonetheless. I don’t know if this is what the question means, but it’s random.

What is something unusual that you know how to do?

Not particularly unusual, but I can eat a whole carton of Ben & Jerry’s in one sitting? Does that count?

Name something you made in the last year and show us if you can.

See, now this is my category! Okay, lets see….

There’s my crochet doll I just finished, my cosy knitted snood (made with 20mm needles!), and my Golden Snitch (my first ever amigurumi project):

What is your most recent personal project?

I’ve started crocheting a bag to put my yarn in (yes, I see the irony in that) and I’m currently working on the mesh part of the bag, so look out for photos on my Instagram!

Tell us something that you think about often?

One of the guys I work with – he’s six foot seven, with hair he can put into a man-bun, a bit of a beard, hipster glasses, and he’s artistic. Yeah, yeah, I should be thinking about more important things, but damn, he’s hot!

Give us something that is your favourite.

Say the first thing that pops into your head

“My name is Alexander Hamilton….”

Ringing In The New Year Book Tag

Hi everyone!

It’s New Year’s Eve – the last day of the year (thank god) – and 2017 is almost upon us. Hence, this book tag! I found that D.J over at Quill, Book And Candle had done this tag, and since I’m bored and it’s New Year’s Eve here in the UK, it’s the perfect time to do this.

Let’s go!

Best Book and /or series that you’ve read in 2016:

Authors that you’ve recently found & would like to read more of in the New Year:

I refer you to my answer for number one – Jennifer Armentrout! I really want to read more of her stuff this year, and to indulge myself in her particular brand of paranormal romance.

Most anticipated book turned movie/tv show:

I’m really hoping to see the Throne of Glass tv show on Hulu at some point in 2017- or at least some solid announcements about casting and possibly a premiere date?

Name a character that you wouldn’t mind sharing a kiss with at midnight (if there is one):

I wouldn’t mind stealing a kiss from Magnus Bane at midnight – even it does mean I get a jealous Alec in return. It’d be so worth it. I mean, think of all that experience you’d get over all those years of being immortal.

What’s on your tbr for 2017:

Well, among others, these are my main three:

How many books do you hope to read in 2017:

I’m hoping to get through at least fifty this year? Since I didn’t manage to read as much this year, and I didn’t make my Goodreads challenge goal, I’m going to be conservative this time around and make it fifty.

How many books did you read in 2016:

I read about 89 books in 2016, which I’m happy about. It’s a good reading amount for a year in which I also got a job.

Will you participate in the goodreads challenge or any others:

Of course! I always do the Goodreads challenge – whether or not I make my 2017 goal is a whole other question. We’ll just have to see.

Christmas Cracker Book Tag!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I’m back in full force, since I have very recently received a BEAUTIFUL new laptop, so I’ll be able to post a lot more now. Hopefully this time, I’ll be able to stick to regular posting.

Anyway, to celebrate this special day, I’m doing the Christmas Cracker book tag – created by Lucy ( Queen of Contemporary) and seen on Stacey’s blog – so sit back and enjoy!

Pick a book with a wintry cover

To me, nothing is more of a wintry cover than ‘Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares.’ I mean, look at it – it practically exudes Christmassy spirit!

Pick a book you’re likely buy as a present

It is my personal belief that everyone should own a ‘Harry Potter’ book, so I’m more likely than not to buy someone a copy of ‘Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone’ because…well, why the hell not?

Pick a festive themed book

“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents,” grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.

Little Women, duh.

Pick a book you can curl up with by the fireplace

I haven’t read a lot of Christmassy books this year, but one that I did read, is ‘I Heart Christmas’ by Lindsay Kelk. And I loved it! It was the perfect Christmas read, and one you can easily imagine yourself reading all curled up in the warmth.

Pick a book you want to read over the festive period

This year, I’m dying to read ‘The Twelve Days Of Dash And Lily’ – after all, the first one was so amazing and heartwarming, that I’m so excited to get around to reading this one. Give me all my Dash and Lily!

Pick a book that’s so good it gives you chills.

You can’t get any better than C.S Lewis for Christmas – reading ‘The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe’ just gets you in that wintry mood, and is so good that it can give you both chills and also that warm and cushy feeling inside.

Pick a book going on your Christmas wishlist.

Little late for this year’s Christmas list, I think? But next year, I’ve got several books I want to get:

  • A Court of Wings and Ruin (Sarah J Maas)
  • Lord of Shadows (Cassandra Clare)
  • The Ship of The Dead (Rick Riordan)

By this time next year, all three of these will have been released, so if anyone wants to give me these next year, feel free.

I tag anyone who wants to do this, since Christmas is essentially over in a few hours.

Happy reading, and a merry Christmas!

Gilmore Girls Book Tag

Okay, I admit, I’ve been binge-watching ‘Gilmore Girls’ for the past week or so – I’m on the second season so far -, especially because of the revival episodes coming on in November, but that just means I can do the Gilmore Girls book tag! Seriously, there’s a tag for everything out there. This tag was created by PucksAndPaperbacks on YouTube, and I’ll link their video at the bottom.

Let’s get this on the road!

Lorelai – A character with a witty or sarcastic sense of humor

For this one, I think I’ll go with someone from my most recently read series – The Raven Boys. Everyone, I present….Ronan Lynch. Ronan’s sense of humour definitely veers more towards sarcasm than witty, but he suits this category, so there.

Rory – Your favorite classic

Actually, I think my favourite classic is one I studied in school – Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff and Cathy’s turbulent, fierce relationship is really unhealthy, but it fascinates me. I’m fascinated by the disturbing.

Luke – A book you secretly love, but are afraid to admit.

Hmm, not happening. I’m very upfront about the books I like or dislike, and books are the one thing I don’t have guilty pleasures in.

Lane – A musical character

The first character who comes to mind here is Mia from ‘If I Stay.’ To Mia, her cello means more to her than most other things, and it’s how she met her boyfriend, Adam. Therefore, she fits this category.

Dean- Your first book love (character or book you first loved!)

There’s been so many book loves in my life, but I’ll always have a soft spot for ‘Harry Potter’ in my book-loving heart. Hogwarts will always be my true home.

Sookie – A book you’ve devoured.

I absolutely devoured ‘A Court of Mist And Fury’ when I first got it. Seriously, I went through it so quickly that I’m still coughing up pieces of it now. Just kidding, but you get the idea. I loved it, I devoured it, and I relished every word.

Jess- A book you love, that gets the most hate.

Everyone seems to hate the ‘Hush Hush’ series by Becca Fitzpatrick, but I genuinely like it. It’s a really good series in my opinion, and I like it no matter what people say about it. Haters can go and suck it.

Miss Patty – A book that was ruined by the hype

I think if there wasn’t so much hype arounx the ‘To All The Boys I Loved Before’ book, I would have enjoyed it a little more than I ended up doing. It was an alright book, but because of the hype, I ended up not enjoying it as much as I think I would have otherwise.

Emily Gilmore – expensive book

My choice for this one, isn’t just one book – it’s three. This gorgeous box set of the Ruby Red books by Kerstin Gier is one of the most beautiful boxsets I’ve ever seen, and I want it, but it’s nearly 24 quid! Ugh!

Paris – An uptight character

Again, returning to the Ruby Red series, I choose Charlotte Montrose as an uptight character. Seriously, if that girl was more stiff and uptight, she’d be a wooden board.

I tag:

Frodo/Sam @ Fangirls On The Road
Jesse – Books At Dawn
Kim @ By Hook or By Book
Ashleigh @ Frolic Through Fiction.

Even if I didn’t tag you and you want to do this tag, just do it anyway, and put the link in the comments below so I can check out your answers.

Now, I’m off to stare dreamily at pictures of Jess Mariano, because….why the fuck not?

Happy reading!

The Secret Life Of The Book Blogger

I wasn’t specifically tagged for this one, but I saw that Aman did this tag and tagged everyone in general, so I took a crack at it. This was actually really fun to write up, as a matter of fact. Yay for blogging moods!

Let’s get started!

What is the best part?

Honestly, I think the best part is getting to create these bookish posts, about something I’m passionate about, and having other people read it and comment, and getting a conversation started from that. That’s my favourite part about blogging.

What is the worst part?

The worst part is the coming up with ideas part. Ugh, why does creativity evade my grasp?!

How long does it take you to find/create pictures to use?

I generally use Google images if I need stock images, but usually Tumblr if I’m looking for specific gifs to use in my posts. I’d love to have some decent rudimentary skills in Photoshop though, so I could make my own graphics to use.

Who’s your book crush?

Really? Just one? Well, I guess if I had to choose a single one of my book crushes, I’d go with Daemon from the Lux series. Yeah, he’s an alien and could probably kill me without a second thought, but he’s hot and funny and witty. I like that.

What author would you like to have on your blog?

Oh god, if I could get the queen herself – J.K. Rowling – on my blog, I think I would die and go to book blogger heaven. That would be a dream come true.

What do you wear when you write your blog?

A t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and usually barefoot. I’m a chilled out person.

How long does it take you to prepare a post?

It depends on how much inspiration I have – sometimes I can bang out a great post in twenty minutes and format it in five, but other times, it’ll take me a few sessions to get a post satisfactory enough to post online.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I honestly love the book bloggers – yeah, there’s drama when we get into heated discussions over certain issues, but overall, there is just so much love for books and book characters, and it’s amazing for me especially, to have this network of people I can gush about books to, when I don’t have anyone in real life who really understands.

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

I think it just depends on what each individual regards as being ‘successful.’ My blog has grown so much over the last year and a bit, and I now have over 200 followers, but I considered it a success when I even had just twenty-five followers! It depends what your personal goals are – if you feel like you’ve reached or surpassed those goals with your blog, then you’ve got a successful blog.

Pokemon GO Book Tag

I first saw this on Jesse’s blog, and then on Cristina’s when I was browsing this morning, and I’ve now seen everything now there is a book tag for Pokemon Go. Still, since I do actually play it, and I’m kinda sorta obsessed with it, so lets do this thing.

This tag was actually created by Aentee (Read At Midnight), as were the cool Pokemon graphics, so I claim none of this except for my answers. Also, any gifs used here, I got from either Tumblr or Google Images.

Lets go catch ’em all!

Most people will be saying Harry Potter for this one, but for me, it was actually a combination of ‘The BFG’, ‘Matilda’, and ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine.’ I got a big hardcover book that had all three in it, and that was me. I was hooked.

There is absolutely no question about this, in my opinion – Harry Potter . This series (hell, this whole fictional universe) is a modern classic, and will still be read fifty years from now. Personally, I could read the HP books over and over again and never get bored. It’s like coming home to a warm and familiar hug, every time I open one of the books.

I’ve heard a lot about the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, but I still haven’t had a chance to read it yet!!! I guess I’ll get to reading it at some point or another, but at this stage, I’m kind of indifferent whether or not I read it at all.

When I was first reading ‘Obsidian’ by Jennifer L. Armentrout, I definitely got some Twilight-like vibes – girl moves to a ridiculously small town, meets a hot guy who seems too good to be human but is actually very arrogant/mean, almost gets hit by a truck, finds out hot guy isn’t actually human at all – but I actually still love the Lux series, despite the Twilight similarities.

Okay, so I have actually started reading the A Song of Ice And Fire series, but I haven’t made it past the start of the second book, purely because it’s so intimidating and big – it’s so big! One day, I promise….

Simon! I stayed up til about three in the morning to finish reading ‘Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda’ and I have no regrets, because this book is literal gold.

Really? I have to pick one? Ugh, fine! Hmm…

Daemon and Katy, I choose you!

Talk about fast-paced – ‘Red Queen’ had me on the edge of my seat through the whole book.  I was constantly being surprised and then that big plot twist at the end had me thrown for a serious loop.

I will never EVER get tired of seeing spin-off series for the Shadowhunter universe. We had the Mortal Instruments series, and then Cassie gave us the prequel series that is The Infernal Devices, and now we have ‘The Dark Artifices’ and I am in Shadowhunter heaven. Give me all the LGBTQ Shadowhunters!!!!

I wasn’t expecting to like ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ as much as I did, and when I finished it, I just kind of sat there for a minute, wondering how I loved it so much. It’s just an awesome book, alright?

I do think that the hype over the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ series could be a little overdone, but I’m still looking forward to reading it and seeing how good it actually is.

Look at this Harry Potter collector’s edition! Also, buy it for me? Pretty please?  Just kidding. Mostly.

I don’t have any current debut novels that I’m looking forward at the moment, but I know I was very excited for ‘Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda’ to be released last year. That was one I was very excited for.

J.K Rowling. ‘Nuff said.

It’s been less than a year, but it feels like I’ve been waiting an eternity for the second instalment in the ‘Magnus Chase’ series by Rick Riordan – AKA ‘Magnus Chase and The Hammer of Thor.’ Only a few months to go….. *sob*

I tag:

Hannah @ La Chat Blanc

Olivia @ Heir of Glitter

Lizzie @ Accio Padfoot
