Title: Shattered Blue

Author: Lauren Bird Horowitz

Synopsis: For Noa and Callum, being together is dangerous, even deadly. From the start, sixteen-year-old Noa senses that the mysterious transfer student to her Monterey boarding school is different. Callum unnerves and intrigues her, and even as she struggles through family tragedy, she’s irresistibly drawn to him. Soon they are bound by his deepest secret: Callum is Fae, banished from another world after a loss hauntingly similar to her own.

But in Noa’s world, Callum needs a special human energy, Light, to survive; his body steals it through touch—or a kiss. And Callum’s not the only Fae on the hunt. When Callum is taken, Noa must decide: Will she sacrifice everything to save him? Even if it means learning their love may not be what she thought?

Review: I received this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, which I always give.

When I stumbled across this book on Netgalley, I was a little wary because the description made it seem like almost every other teen fantasy novel out there nowadays, but I gave it a try anyway, and I was pleasantly surprised by it.

After Noa’s older sister dies in an accident, the whole family’s world is rocked. Instead of boarding at the school like she used to, Noa has to become a day student, and share a room with her three-year old little sister. One thing leads to another, and suddenly Noa finds herself in the midst of a Fae battle, her head spinning with Clear Fae, Red Fae, Green Fae, and having her heart torn between two brothers.

I actually ship Noa with the younger brother Judah, rather than Callum who is the main love interest, I guess. I just prefer Judah – he’s wild, but with a sweet heart of gold under everything else.

I can’t wait until the next book in the series comes out because this is a series that really has promise to be a bestseller. It’s intriguing, and with just the right amount of fantasy to balance out the normal elements. I recommend it to anyone who’s a fan of Melissa Marr’s ‘Wicked Lovely’ series or Becca Fitzpatrick’s ‘Hush Hush’ series.

Shattered Blue is released on September 15th 2015.
